Early Batik (1973 - 1978)

I began experimenting with batik while living in Collegetown in Ithaca, New York in 1973.  Those cheap student apartments were perfect for melting and dribbling, throwing, squirting, hurling, stamping (and the wide range of approaches to applying hot wax in a communal kitchen in a socially-conscious fashion.)  We were partying a lot and my approach to batik developed during these years as more of a stream of consciousness methodology rather than anything that was planned or thought out in any way.  All of this was joyfully created in the "here and now".  I'm still finishing some pieces begun in this era.
